Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m very tempted to try this but was wondering what you do about screens at friends/families houses or school? Also, what wording did you use to explain your decision so that your kids could understand?

Thanks again!

This is a great question! I think the best way to tackle this is by simply accepting you can only control what you can control! It is inevitable they are going to use screens at school or watch TV/ play video games at a friends house occasionally. Accepting this fact is really important in my opinion! Secondly, we simply told our kids we weren't using the ipads any more and the TV's were going off. They were very accepting surprisingly and just started playing with each other and their toys. Good luck!

Amazing! I will share this far and wide. I really don't think people (mainly parents and teachers) have quite grasped the damage they are doing. Likewise, I was also a big advocate o fusing gaming and devices for learning, but I have completely flipped in the last year due to evidence, both researched and anecdotal.

Ah thanks so much. I totally agree. I think we were slowly starting to witness the negative impacts of screens and are very, very happy we finally took the plunge into the world of no screens!

Yeah, the research is becoming hard to ignore. I imagine its much more effort to parent without devices, which is probably what puts people off too.

We did a 30 day challenge a few years ago and loved it. It might be time for another round. My kids are 12 and 13 now and I’d love to go screen free for the summer. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow!!! That's amazing, I think you should definitely come back! There's going to be exciting challenges launching before summer, hopefully you guys join again. Also, you can do it!! Summer is the BEST time to try and go no screens or at least severely limit them!!!

We have gone screen-free for our three kids (ages 8, 6, and 4), and I couldn't be happier! The change in them has been remarkable. Keep it up!

My daughter (mother of 6) has noticed a lot of the same things when they break from screens.

What do you do when it’s so early (6am) and want some extra sleep but they keep asking for the tv?
